Blue Foot CMS Administration Home Page

Instructions (The links at the top of this page will take you to the areas discussed below)

1/ CREATE PAGES

  1. Create a page.
  2. Give it a title (which will be the link title you see on your site's menu).

Note: Always have one page labelled "Home" for that to appear as default Home page.

  3. Attach it to a category by clicking a category in the tree on the right of the page editor.
  4. A newly created page will be placed in the root (or top) category.
  5. After creating the page, and you are happy with it, tick the publish box and the preview and save. Once the published status is saved, the page will be live on your site.
  6. Deleting a page: very easy. You will be asked to confirm and the page will be gone.
  7. Note: The creation of pages or categories can take place independently of each other

2/ CREATE CATEGORIES

  1. Give some thought to your category structure. A simple site may not need categories at all...in that case you would just have maybe 6 or 7 pages attached to the default root (or top) category and you would see these pages as links on the menu bar.
  2. Ok, so your site is more complex. In this case you would need some categories. In most cases 1 - 3 categories might be required for you to organise your content.
  3. The category/s will then appear as a link/s on your menu bar, and when you mouse over that link, a menu will fly out to the right of the menu showing you the links to the pages you have put in that category.
  4. If your site is even more complex you can nest your categories, but you wouldnt want to go further then 3 levels deep (1 fly out menu with other fly out menus coming out of that) More than 3 and your structure is overly complex and that complexity is not required in most cases. (Unless you are the IRD maybe)
  5. Deleting a category: If there are other categories nested inside you will be asked to delete them first.
  6. If there are pages attached to a category, you will be warned of this. Deleting the category wont delete the pages. The pages will be simply orphaned and you can then choose to attach them to another category.
  7. Note: The creation of pages or categories can take place independently of each other

3/ ORDERING MENU ITEMS

  1. This is where you choose the placement of your menu bar items at each level. i.e. which items (links which are your page names or category names) appear above or below each other.
  2. This is simply achieved by entering ordering numbers for rach menu item. In each level of a menu any item with an order number higher than another will appear above one with a lower order number.

4/ IMAGE INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Upload images using the Ibrowser plugin. The images will automatically resize and after upload you will be able to preview them and insert them into your web pages. Note: if your image is very large you still may need to resize it prior to upload so that you are not waiting a long time for your image to upload. (Click the button indicated below for both upload image and image placement functionality.)
  2. With your cursor flashing at the point where you want your image placed, click the insert button.
  3. Then right click on image and choose "image properties" then "appearance". Set alignment to left as this will give the best balance for images on your page.
  4. Note: You can do some minor resizing of the image via dragging its corners in the editor. However this only changes the visual size of the image.
